Hemorrhoids Causes

There are literally thousands of people who suffer from hemorrhoids, doctors and physicians see sufferers almost on a daily basis and as such there has been a great deal of research done into hemorrhoid causes.

There are different types of hemorrhoids.  There are internal, external and thrombosed each having their different symptoms so despite this extensive research there is no definitive factor that can be pin pointed as a culprit for the causes.

Research has found that if there is a family history of hemorrhoids then your chances of being a sufferer are increased.  Another obvious suspect is diet.  Diets that involve high levels of protein are well known for causing a slowing of the bowel action, harder stools and in some cases, constipation.  This in turn leads to straining in the lower bowel which is another cause for hemorrhoids.

Pressure has also been found to be a link such as the pressure exerted on the bottom from  prolonged sitting.  Maybe you have an office job that requires long periods of time being sat down or a job that involves a lot of long distance travel.  Lifting heavy objects can also cause pressure in the area, people in manual jobs where lifting is involved and weight trainers in the gym are more at risk of developing hemorrhoids.

Modern living and overly rich diets are prime ground for hemorrhoids.  Research has shown that in other under developed countries where they are possibly too poor to afford high levels of meat and who’s diets are predominantly based on cereals and pulses, do not have such a high percentage of hemorrhoid sufferers as their diet doesn’t promote as much straining on the bowel and they tend to have softer stools due to the higher intake of fibre.

Our western lifestyle seems to be culprit number one when it comes to hemorrhoids.  There has been a dramatic increase in sufferers over recent years with the growing popularity of the fast food restaurants that are never far away from any doorstep.  A couple of decades ago it was normal to cook a family meal every night which in most cases would consist of a balance of meat and vegetables.  Our ever changing lifestyles mean that many women now go out to work and understandably don’t want to start cooking a full meal after a long day at work.  The market for convenience foods has exploded and unfortunately a great many are not offering the levels of fibre that our bodies need.  Many also carry high levels of salt which dehydrates that body and causes the stools to become harder.

In summary, despite there being no definitive reasons for hemorrhoids causes, our lifestyles, our diets and family predispositions seem to be the most likely.
